Performing Group — We’re seeking prospective dance company members! Nā Lei Hulu’s performing company is composed mostly of students hand-picked from our classes. Select students who exhibit the potential and commitment may be invited to be part of our performing group.
Spring 2025 session: Register by February 23rd.
About our keiki classes:Keiki (Children & Teens ONLY; ages 4.5 and up) are taught by Kumu Julie Mau + hula kokua (helpers)
Classes are approximately 60 minute sessions which include basic Hawaiian language for children; counting, colors, days of the week, and other hula directions and commands. These are then incorporated into basic hula ‘steps’, which is the foundation of a hula dancer.
Attire for girls are hula pā’ū skirts. Boys should wear comfortable shorts or sweats. Sewing Instructions are available.
Haumana (student) pā’ū skirts:
Pā’ū skirts (any print) are recommended, but not necessary for our students wishing to use them. If you would like to sew your own, or would like to purchase one you may contact Aunty Laurie Smith at: kapuapoli@comcast.net.
